    What’s the best cybersecurity certification to start with in 2025?

    The best place to start in 2025 depends on whether you’re coming from zero tech background or already have some IT exposure. If you’re brand new, ISC2 CC is a clean, low-friction entry point. It teaches you how security people think  risk, controls, threats  without overwhelming you with acronyms or assuming years of experience. It also gives you a recognizable credential that signals intent and baseline literacy to recruiters.

    If you already have some IT background (helpdesk, networking, sysadmin, cloud support), Security+ is usually the better starting move. It covers broader technical ground and maps more closely to what entry-level SOC or junior security roles expect you to understand. The key thing people miss: neither cert gets you job-ready on its own. The “best” starting cert is the one you pair with hands-on labs immediately after passing.

    Is Security+ still worth it in 2025?

    Yes  but not for the reasons people used to give. Security+ is no longer a standout credential; it’s a baseline. In many environments, it’s simply assumed for junior security roles, especially SOC analyst positions. From a hiring perspective, Security+ tells me you understand core concepts like authentication, encryption, network security, and incident basics well enough to have a productive conversation.

    Where people go wrong is stopping there. In 2025, Security+ only has real value if you can connect it to practice. That means being able to say, “Here’s how I used those concepts in a lab,” or “Here’s how this would apply in a real alert or misconfiguration.” If you treat Security+ as a checkbox and don’t build anything alongside it, its value drops sharply.

    Can I take CISSP without 5 years of experience?

Neither is “better” universally  the wrong choice just creates friction later.

    Is OSCP worth it for getting a pentesting job?

    If your goal is a hands-on pentesting role, OSCP is still one of the strongest signals you can send  but only if you approach it correctly. OSCP forces you to think methodically, troubleshoot under stress, and document your work clearly. Those skills translate directly into real pentest engagements, especially at junior to mid-level.

    That said, OSCP is not a shortcut. Many people underestimate the foundational skills required and burn out. Without solid networking knowledge, Linux comfort, and scripting basics, OSCP becomes an exercise in frustration rather than growth. Hiring managers don’t just care that you passed they care whether you can explain your methodology, failures, and reporting process. If you can do that, OSCP is absolutely worth it
